Campaign Overview

The story so far β€” and where we're headed

Ten thousand years ago, the empire of Thassilon dominated what is now Varisia. Ruled by the seven Runelords β€” archwizards who each embodied one of the seven deadly sins β€” it was a civilization of staggering magical power and unspeakable cruelty. When Earthfall brought the empire to ruin, the Runelords retreated into magical stasis, awaiting the day they might rise again.

That day is coming. In the quiet coastal town of Sandpoint, ancient evils stir. What begins as a goblin raid during a festival will unravel into a saga spanning decades, as the legacy of the Runelords echoes through five intertwined chapters of Varisia's history.

This campaign blends five Pathfinder Adventure Paths into a single, seamless narrative β€” a generational epic where the choices of one group of heroes ripple forward to shape the world for those who follow.

Edition Note: This saga spans both Pathfinder editions. Rise of the Runelords, Shattered Star, and Return of the Runelords use Pathfinder 1st Edition. Seven Dooms for Sandpoint and Revenge of the Runelords use Pathfinder 2nd Edition. Character conversion guidance will be provided at each transition point.

Adventure Path Timeline
Chapter I PF1
Rise of the Runelords
A goblin raid in Sandpoint leads to the discovery that Runelord Karzoug, the Claimer, stirs in his ancient prison of Xin-Shalast. Heroes must stop his return before the age of greed begins anew.
Chapter II PF1
Shattered Star
The Sihedron β€” the seven-pointed star and key to Thassilonian power β€” has been shattered. The Pathfinder Society races to reassemble its fragments before ancient forces claim them first.
Chapter III PF1
Return of the Runelords
Alaznist, Runelord of Wrath, has awakened β€” and she's not alone. As Runelords rise across Varisia, heroes must navigate a war between ancient tyrants and prevent the resurrection of Thassilon itself.
Chapter IV PF2
Seven Dooms for Sandpoint
Years later, Sandpoint faces a convergence of seven distinct threats β€” each rooted in the town's dark history. A new generation of heroes must confront the dooms before Sandpoint is consumed.
Chapter V PF2
Revenge of the Runelords
The final reckoning. The full weight of Thassilon's legacy crashes against the present. Everything the saga's heroes have fought for culminates in a climax ten thousand years in the making.

Varisia & Thassilon

The land and the empire that haunts it

🏘 Sandpoint
The Light of the Lost Coast. A small but spirited town that serves as the saga's anchor point. Home to the Rusty Dragon, the Old Light, and more dark secrets than any settlement this size should have.
πŸ› Magnimar
The City of Monuments, built in the shadow of the Irespan β€” a colossal Thassilonian bridge that looms over the harbor. Seat of regional power and the Pathfinder Society's Varisian lodge.
πŸ” Xin-Shalast
The lost city of greed, hidden high in the Kodar Mountains. Capital of Runelord Karzoug's domain and the site of his imprisonment β€” and potential return.
β›° Hollow Mountain
The island fortress of Runelord Alaznist, Mistress of Wrath. A volcanic stronghold riddled with dungeons, demons, and Thassilonian war machines.
πŸŒ‰ The Irespan
A massive ruined bridge stretching across Magnimar's harbor β€” the last visible span of a structure that once connected Thassilonian domains. Its pilings hide the Crow, a notorious underworld district.
πŸ“Ώ The Sihedron
The seven-pointed star of Thassilon β€” symbol of the Runelords' unified power. As an artifact, the Sihedron is the key to controlling or destroying the legacy of the ancient empire.

The Sihedron was not merely a symbol β€” it was a tool of governance. Each of the seven points represents a school of sin magic (a corrupted form of the original seven virtues of rule), and together they formed a magical framework that bound the Runelords to their domains. When the Sihedron shattered, so too did the unity of Thassilon β€” and the Runelords turned on each other.
